food photography

My last year of the foundation degree in photography has brought with it a new assignment, which is a research and work based learning module.  I have chosen to research 'Food Photography' an area I have not ventured into and feel that I really should before I finish this year.

At the moment I am researching the history of food photography and photographers that I really admire.
But took a break this afternoon as the sun was shining to attempt my first official 'food photography shoot.

The Sunday Rule

Our Sunday rule dictates that we go out rather than stay in studying on a Sunday, this weekend the weather has been cold and wet so a cream tea and a walk around Calke Abbey seemed to be a good excuse to leave the study books and venture out.
Calke is the unstately, stately home which has been carefully preserved in its state of disrepair, it actually has several rooms in good repair and is absolutely full of wonderful and interesting artefacts from past lives....
From stately rooms to the servants kitchens and the wine cellars, everything has been preserved as it was found...

Photography was very tricky,  the light was poor today & the windows boarded up so a little artistic licence was the order of the day.....

cold & wet.....

It does not feel like a good day... the rain has been persistent all day and it looks miserable!
I am spending my friday evening wrapped up on the sofa.. heating on and planning to watch comfort films, eat comfort food.. and shut out the world..

Wrapping up for Autumn

The landscape is changing and preparing for winter..

I am loving the autumnal colours.. but not so much the cold and dark which has left me with a cracked rib after falling on the concrete outside, I am looking to expand my autumn wardrobe so that I keep warm and snug..

Hunstanton Beach

I spent some time working on stitching these images together to create a Panorama, I had forgotten how to do this so it was a real learning curve to work it out once more..
I am happy with the results and the images are much better than the originals - the overal exposure has been improved with a little work..

Melbourne Festival

Every year Melbourne holds an Art Festival weekend, it sees the village full to the brim with visitors, all eager to experience this incredible event where private houses are open to the public, housing art from a wide variety of sources.

This year I was able to spend some time on the art and architecture trail, the homes were wonderful to experience, the entertainment eclectic and the food and atmosphere wonderful

This is the 'secret garden' cafe - open only for the festival and transporting you back in time to a gentler era with home made produce served by young and old..where time stands still.
A wonderful experience and weekend.
